Finding the right Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in North Vancouver and Surrey starts with knowing what to look for. In British Columbia, Registered Clinical Counsellors are credentialed members of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) — a professional body that sets standards for training, ethics, and practice. Working with an RCC ensures you are seeing a qualified professional who meets rigorous educational and clinical requirements.
There are several ways to find a Registered Clinical Counsellor in North Vancouver and Surrey. The BCACC website maintains a searchable directory of all registered members practicing in BC, which allows you to filter by location, specialty, and approach. Psychology Today also maintains a directory of counsellors in North Vancouver where you can read individual profiles and learn about each counsellor's areas of focus and therapeutic approach.

We believe in transparency around fees and are happy to discuss what to expect before you book.
Many extended health insurance plans in BC cover counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. We recommend checking with your provider to confirm your coverage, as plans vary significantly in the amount they reimburse per session and annually.

This is one of the most common questions people have when looking for mental health support in BC, and it is a great one to ask. In British Columbia there are several types of regulated and credentialed mental health professionals, and understanding the differences can help you make an informed decision about the kind of support that is right for you.
A psychologist in BC holds a doctoral level degree (PhD or PsyD) and is registered with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia. Psychologists are trained to conduct psychological assessments and testing, diagnose mental health conditions, and provide therapy. Their doctoral level training typically means a longer path to licensure and their fees are generally higher, often ranging from $200 to $300 or more per session.
A Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) is a credentialed member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and holds a minimum of a master's degree in counselling or a related field. RCCs are trained to provide professional counselling and psychotherapy for a wide range of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. While RCCs do not conduct formal psychological assessments or provide diagnoses, they are highly trained clinicians who provide effective, evidence-informed counselling to individuals, couples, and families.
At SteadyCore Counselling, Leila Howard and Devana Weiss are both Registered Clinical Counsellors and Approved Clinical Supervisors (RCC-ACS) — a designation that reflects advanced clinical training and the qualification to provide supervision to other counsellors. Our work is grounded in Bowen Family Systems Theory, a research-informed approach that supports lasting change by helping clients understand the emotional and relational patterns influencing their lives.
